Community Bands & Programs

Batucada Community Band

Batacuda de Durango | Community Samba Band

A percussion based ensemble for adults and youth (12 & up) in the Durango community and surrounding areas. This ensemble consists of traditional Brazilian and Afro-Cuban rhythms and percussion instruments including; surdu, caixa, repinique, tamborim, and agogo, among others. No prior experience is necessary and all instruments are provided.

Or maybe you’ve been getting together with friends but need some structure and focus to actually get out there and play. Whatever the case, there is a place for you at Stillwater. We have everything from beginner bands to advanced performance-oriented bands. Check it out!

Music Together Early Childhood Music Classes

Music Together is about connecting— with music, with your child, and with other families in your community. Playful and enriching, it’s 45 minutes of fun (for everyone!) with benefits that extend far beyond the classroom.

A Relaxed, Family-Style Environment

Each week for 9 weeks, a trained Music Together teacher leads an inspired and energetic class. You’ll sing and dance to songs ranging from tender lullabies to boisterous jams. The no-pressure approach of our mixed-age class lets all little ones learn in their own way.

“Boom Sonic” Intermediate Combo

Appropriate for middle school & high school students. Students will learn a variety of musical styles with an increasing emphasis on improvisation, and will begin to focus on one or two instruments. Students will continue to learn to read music, recognize and spell chords and play scales. Students are expected to take personal responsibility for practicing.

“Animas Roots” – Americana

This class explores repertoire from American roots music styles such as folk, bluegrass, country and blues as well as some contemporary indie-folk and acoustic versions of popular songs. This performance-oriented class will be geared toward using mainly acoustic instruments. Arrangements will be tailored to the specific group instrumentation and may include extensive work with vocal harmonies.

“Intro to Combos” (Section 1)

This is a new Stillwater class this year! We created this class to be a “bridge” class between our early childhood Accelerando classes and the beginning band classes. This 16-week class will serve as an intro to the Stillwater “be in a band” approach to teaching music. Students will be exposed to piano, ukulele, xylophones, marimbas and percussion instruments. “Nothin’ But Treble” Beginning Vocal Ensemble

Do you have a budding young singer in your house? We invite your child to join Stillwater’s “Nothin’ But Treble” kids choir aimed at teaching basic musical theory, pitch, harmony, rhythm, and movement–all while having a fantastic time! It’s the perfect introduction to singing and will include at least two public performances. COME BE A PART OF THE FUN AND LEARN TO SING WITH CONFIDENCE AND STYLE!

For ages 6-12 although other ages may be admitted with permission of the instructor.
