Kaitlin has been playing and performing music since the age of five originally as a pianist. Over the years, she’s added many instruments to her repertoire, with flute being her biggest passion. Having taught private lessons in flute for most of her high school career, she’s very excited to continue working with fellow flutists again. Kaitlin is finishing up a degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Flute Performance at Fort Lewis College, and will graduate in Fall 2020.
Kaitlin’s main teaching strategies are based around, ‘practice better, not more’. Technique in air-control and embouchure flexibility are challenging for flutists to figure out on their own. With direction and practice, a flutist can change their sound quickly and painlessly, and be shocked by how much easier it is to get the sound that they want. Kaitlin’s goal is to not only help Flute players progress, but for them enjoy the progress and know how to self-diagnose their sound and playing, and make the kind of music that they want to.
