The Stillwater All Stars band is a select group of students playing alongside Stillwater faculty members under the direction of Evan Suiter and Steve Dejka. This group tours and gigs during the summer months in the Four Corners Area. This summer the All Stars will have several performances in Durango, Bayfield and Dolores, and will once again perform at the Telluride Jazz Festival in early August.
The group will rehearse to prepare a 1-hour set of jazz, funk and Latin tunes. In addition to the experience of rehearsing and performing as a professional-level touring band with Stillwater faculty mentors, students in the band will receive a 3-day weekend pass to the Telluride Jazz Festival, including back-stage passes and the opportunity to see and hear top-caliber jazz musicians play world class music.
Attendance at rehearsals is highly important. No more than four (4) rehearsal absences are allowed. All rehearsal absences must be cleared with the instructor in advance.
Students are expected to arrive early and to be ready to begin rehearsing (tuned up, warmed up, etc.) at the start of rehearsal.
Students who do not follow the rehearsal policy may be dismissed from the program.
The following performances have been scheduled – more performances are being negotiated:
- Sunday, July 28, 1:00pm
Pine River Public Library, Bayfield, CO
- Saturday, August 3, 7:00pm
Bill Teetzel’s Studio, Dolores, CO
- Friday-Sunday, August 9-11 (exact performance date/time TBD)
Telluride Jazz Festival – Elks Park Stage, Telluride, CO
The Stillwater All Stars repertoire will consist of custom-arranged jazz, funk, Latin and hip-hop inspired numbers. The set list will be published here soon – please check back.
Individual parts will be sent to students upon registration. Students are expected to be prepared to play their parts at the first week’s rehearsals. If you would like guidance regarding joining the All Stars, and/or you would like more information about the repertoire prior to registering, please contact Evan Suiter at [email protected].
