Dave is a retired physician, dedicated family man, and an amateur bassist. He spent 25 years at the University of Missouri, specializing in skin cancer surgery and reconstruction, while maintaining a part-time residence in Durango. Upon retirement, he and his family relocated to Durango full-time.
Music has always been a part of Dave’s life. Growing up in a music performance family, he was expected to study piano and play at least one instrument. He chose the tuba, upright bass, and even tried his hand at valve trombone. Reflecting on his early years, Dave credits music with providing him unique opportunities and exposure to incredible musician-teachers who made a lasting impact.
Not one to slow down in retirement, Dave earned an MFA in Creative Writing/English and spent a decade as an exhibiting artist. He has also served on the board of Music in the Mountains and participated in their educational outreach efforts. A longtime adult student at Stillwater Music, Dave has seen firsthand the organization’s commitment to music education for all ages. Now, as a member of Stillwater Music’s Board of Directors, Dave is excited to help further the mission of providing accessible music education to both children and adults in the community.
